Renowned comic artists organize workshops for children in Maglaj library

Maglaj Public Library and the Comic Book Lovers Association „StripOs“ from Osijek are organizing two comic drawing workshops for children and young people as part of the project „Balkan Waters“ on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at 5:00 PM and July 29, 2015, at 10:00 AM, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Participants will be able to showcase their talent in drawing comics on the theme of the 2014 floods. Some of the suggested ideas for the comic include: separation from home, the feeling of joy after returning to normal life, friends and school desks, helping in need, the importance of humanitarian aid and the work of rescue services, love for nature and the social environment.

The best works will be printed in a book, which will be published at the end of the project implementation. The project „Balkan Waters“ is being implemented in three countries and five locations: Gunja, Rajevo Selo – Croatia, Obrenovac – Serbia, Maglaj and Doboj – Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The workshops will be led by comic artists Filip Andronik from Sarajevo, Vlado Vesović from Belgrade, Nenad Barinić from Vukovar, and artists from Maglaj. This is an opportunity for comic enthusiasts to enjoy creating their own works, as well as to talk with renowned comic artists.

Every child participating in the workshops will receive five comics, and the best and most active participants can expect prizes.
We remind you that Maglaj was one of the cities that suffered the most during the floods in May 2014, and the Public Library was literally flooded, with 28,000 books destroyed out of a total library fund of 40,000. Only through the work and dedication of the staff were old editions and valuable collections saved, and the library shone in a new light as early as August 2014.

Through numerous campaigns and donations, the library compensated for the loss, and many agree that it is even more beautiful than it was before.
