(Patria) - American and Iranian officials said on Sunday they had reached an agreement to end the war, halt the US blockade of Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which could lead to lower energy prices once oil shipments resume through that key waterway, Reuters reported this morning.
European leaders were among the first to react.
In a joint statement by the leaders of the E4 group, comprising the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy, they stated that "Iran must never have nuclear weapons."
"We are ready to cooperate with the US, Iran and the IAEA to that end," they added.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also spoke out.
"It is clear to us that free freedom of navigation must now be restored in the Strait of Hormuz... Iran must never have nuclear weapons."
In a separate report, Reuters states that the E4 group said on Sunday that these countries are ready to lift sanctions on Iran in response to steps regarding its nuclear program after the United States and Iran reached an agreement to end the war.
