Consequences of natural disaster in BiH to be discussed

The session of the House of Representatives of the PSBiH began with a moment of silence for all victims of the catastrophic floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today, the representatives will discuss the information provided by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers on the consequences of the natural disaster. They will also consider the requests of the Council of Ministers for the urgent procedure consideration of the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Public Procurement, and the Bill on Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorist Activities, reports the reporter of the BiH News Agency Patria.  

The information received by the representatives states that the data obtained from the civil protection of the entities and Brčko District are still preliminary, incomplete, and unofficial, which makes it difficult for the Ministry of Security of BiH to update and consolidate data on the situation, damage assessments, and needs (material and financial) relevant for transparent requests for international assistance in the recovery and reconstruction phase.

According to reports on the situation on the ground, the situation has not changed between May 24 and 26. The water level in Posavina is decreasing, but water was still present in the towns along the Sava River.

The breaches of the embankment at several locations along the Sava River significantly slow down the efficiency of water pumping. The report also states that about 18,600 households were completely flooded, along with significant damage to infrastructure and public service facilities. Several hundred tons of animal carcasses are still present in the flooded areas.

During the discussion on the situation in BiH, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Vjekoslav Bevanda, was not present, but he soon joined the session.

Šefik Džaferović insisted on an explanation for Bevanda's absence, to which Milorad Živković, the Speaker of the House, stated that there was a written explanation for why Bevanda could not attend.

Živković repeatedly called out Mladen Ćavar, Deputy Minister of Security, as Ivica Ćavar, for which he was repeatedly warned that it was Mladen, not Ivica. Ćavar is now presenting the report to the parliamentarians, reports the reporter of the BiH News Agency Patria.
