Different statements from JD Vance and Rubio: One rejects further conflict, the other issues threats to Iran

(Patria) - US Vice President JD Vance spoke to NBC about what the United States wants from Iran, and as he pointed out, they are now ready to launch a diplomatic process.

During the night, the US bombed three nuclear facilities in Iran, and Vance states that they have successfully set back Iran's nuclear weapons program and that President Donald Trump now wants to find a diplomatic solution.

"We do not want to drag this out or expand it any further than it has already gone too far. We want to end their nuclear program," Vance said on "Meet the Press" with Kristen Welker, Reuters reports.

"We want to talk to the Iranians about a long-term deal".

In an interview with NBC, he also said that he does not believe the conflict with Iran will escalate into a prolonged war, that the US has no interest in sending additional troops to the Middle East, and that America does not want a regime change in Iran.

"I don't want to get into sensitive intelligence, but we know that we have seriously set back the Iranian nuclear program last night - whether it's by years or more," he explained.

"We are not at war with Iran - we are at war with the Iranian nuclear program. I think the president acted decisively last night to destroy that program," he concluded.

On the other hand, somewhat different statements come from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who warned that if Iran responds to the US attacks, such an action would be the worst mistake they have ever made.

Rubio, who also serves as National Security Advisor, made a statement on Fox News. He added that the offer for diplomatic dialogue with Iran is still on the table and emphasized that regime change is not the goal of the United States.

He also said that the United States is not seeking war in Iran.

"The world is a safer and more stable place today than it was 24 hours ago," Rubio said, after which he sent a warning to Iran that their response would be the worst mistake they have ever made.

He warned that the continuation of Iran's nuclear program could also jeopardize the survival of the regime.

"I think that would be the end of the regime," Rubio stated. "Iran's program has been technically seriously set back, not only because of what we did last night, but also because of what the Israelis did previously, who did a great job," he added.

Rubio also warned about Iran's network of regional groups, saying that the Trump administration has made it clear: "If any of these groups attack America, we will not only deal with them, but we will attribute responsibility to Iran. We know who is behind them. Iran will be responsible for the actions of these groups".

Rubio also emphasized that regime change in Iran is not the goal of the US and stated that Iran will not manipulate Donald Trump.
