Trump and Putin spoke, agreed that the war in Ukraine should end with lasting peace

(Patria) - Russia has agreed to a limited ceasefire, i.e., a suspension of attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure for 30 days.

This was decided after today's phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which lasted about an hour and a half, the White House confirmed, as reported by Index.hr.

In a statement released after the call between the two presidents, the White House stated that both sides agreed to hold "technical negotiations" on a ceasefire in the Black Sea region, as well as on a full ceasefire and ultimately – lasting peace.

They also stressed the need to improve bilateral relations between the United States of America and Russia. The blood and treasure that Ukraine and Russia have spent in this war would be better directed towards the needs of their people.

This conflict should never have started and should have ended long ago with sincere and good-faith peace efforts.

The leaders agreed that the peace process will begin with a ceasefire in attacks on energy infrastructure, as well as technical negotiations on the implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, a full ceasefire, and lasting peace.

The leaders discussed the Middle East extensively as a region of potential cooperation to prevent future conflicts. They also discussed the need to stop the proliferation of strategic weapons and the engagement of other countries to ensure the broadest possible application.

The two leaders shared the view that Iran should never be in a position to destroy Israel and agreed that a future with improved bilateral relations between the US and Russia has enormous potential.
