War Crime: Miloš Čajević Sentenced for Murder of Elderly Woman in Brčko in May 1993

The Court of Appeal in Novi Sad passed a final verdict sentencing Serbian citizen Miloš Čajević to six years in prison for a crime committed in Brčko, the Brčko District Prosecutor's Office announced, reports the Patria News Agency.  

Miloš Čajević was born in 1965 in Brčko. In May 1993, he broke into the apartment of F.H. (66) in Nasta Nakića Street with another person, found the elderly woman alone, and murdered her with rifle shots.

Čajević was prosecuted for this murder before the competent military court in Bijeljina, after which the District judiciary continued the criminal proceedings against him.

In the meantime, he fled from justice and hid in Serbia. An international arrest warrant was issued for him in 2001, and the complete criminal file was handed over to the judiciary of the Republic of Serbia in 2014.

In accordance with the agreement on cooperation in criminal and civil matters between the two countries, the proceedings in this case continued in Serbia. Čajević was initially sentenced to five years in prison by the Higher Court in Sremska Mitrovica, and then his sentence was increased to six years on appeal before the Court of Appeal in Novi Sad.
