(Patria) - Iran and Israel have carried out new missile attacks, as the war between the two long-time enemies entered its sixth day despite US President Donald Trump's call for unconditional surrender from Iran, Reuters reported.
The Israeli military announced that two barrages of Iranian missiles were launched towards Israel in the first two hours of Wednesday morning. Explosions were heard over Tel Aviv.
Israel told residents in the Tehran area to evacuate so that their air forces could attack Iranian military installations. Iranian news reported that explosions were heard in Tehran and the city of Karaj, west of the capital.
Trump warned on social media on Tuesday that the United States' patience was running out. Although he said he had no intention of killing the Iranian leader "for now," his comments suggest a more aggressive stance towards Iran as he considers whether to deepen US involvement.
"We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding," he wrote on the Truth Social social network, referring to Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"We will not eliminate (kill!) him, at least not for now... Our patience is running out."
Three minutes later, Trump posted: "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!"
A White House official said Trump spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.
Trump's sometimes contradictory and enigmatic messages about the conflict between close US ally Israel and long-time enemy Iran have deepened uncertainty surrounding the crisis. His public comments have ranged from military threats to diplomatic overtures, which is not unusual for a president known for his often unpredictable approach to foreign policy.
Trump met with his National Security Council for ninety minutes on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the conflict, a White House official said.
The United States is deploying more fighter jets to the Middle East and expanding the deployment of other warplanes, three US officials told Reuters.
The United States has so far taken only defensive actions in the current conflict with Iran, including helping to shoot down missiles fired at Israel, Reuters reports.
