Transactions are also growing: 2,170,556 cards active in 2020

(Patria) - In 2020, there was an increase in the number of active cards and the value and number of transactions realized with cards compared to 2019, according to data from the Central Bank of Bosnia and
Herzegovina (CBBH).

According to the report "Card Business in BiH in 2020" published by CBBH, the total number of active
cards in 2020 was 2,170,556, which is 31,952 more cards compared to 2019.
Cards were issued to their clients by 23 banks in BiH and one card company. The most common are debit cards, followed by credit cards and deferred payment cards.

In 2020, there was a trend of increasing value and number of card transactions. Thus, in 2020,
card transactions worth KM 11,535,123,080 were realized, of which the majority (71%) were performed at ATMs, 28% of transactions were performed via POS devices, and 1% via
Internet. During 2020, there was also an increase in the number of transactions compared to 2019, and
the total number of transactions was 113,574,237. Therefore, despite the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, the use of cards for cash withdrawal is dominant.

The average value of one transaction was KM 102, which is KM 14 less than in 2019.
The average annual turnover per card in 2020 was KM 5,314, which is KM 92 more than in the previous year.

Data show that the total value of transactions realized with BiH bank cards abroad and foreign cards in BiH, at ATM and POS devices, was lower in 2020 compared to 2019,
which is a consequence of movement restrictions due to the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus.

Banks are constantly working on introducing more ATM and POS devices into their offer. In the past year,
a total of 1,627 ATM devices and 30,371 POS devices were installed.
Electronic banking services in 2020 were offered by 23 banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is an expressed trend of increasing the number of clients using these services, and thus a total of
956,601 entities were covered by this type of service, of which 76,994 were legal entities and 879,607 were individuals.
