Rasmussen: Ukraine should join NATO without territories occupied by Russia

(Patria) - Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has proposed that Ukraine join the military alliance without the territories occupied by Russia.

According to him, partial membership for Ukraine would send a message to Russia that it cannot prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.

Rasmussen, a Danish politician who served as NATO Secretary General from 2009 to 2014, insisted that the plan for partial membership for Ukraine would not symbolize a frozen conflict, but rather an expression of determination that Russia cannot prevent Ukraine from joining the Western military alliance, The Guardian reports.

Rasmussen added that the issue of Ukraine's NATO membership cannot be postponed again for future years.
