Ramo Brkić sentenced to four years and 11 months in prison

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Former Police Commissioner of the Una-Sana Canton (USK) Ramo Brkić was sentenced in a first-instance verdict by the Municipal Court in Sarajevo to four years and 11 months in prison for the criminal offense of giving gifts or other forms of benefit. 

Brkić was on the run for three years and was arrested on an Interpol warrant on May 28, 2019. At the beginning of October, he was released to defend himself from freedom.   
The proceedings against Brkić were transferred by a decision of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Municipal Court in Sarajevo, and the indictment in this case was represented by the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton.

He was first charged in the case involving BiH Court judge Azra Miletić, and the indictment alleged that he, together with Senad Šabić, through an intermediary, offered a gift to the judge in order to have their sentence reduced or to be acquitted in the appellate proceedings that were ongoing at the time.

Brkić and Šabić then left the territory of BiH, and the proceedings were separated and conducted only against judge Miletić, who was sentenced in a first-instance verdict to two and a half years in prison for receiving gifts and other forms of benefit, but the Appellate Chamber of the Court overturned this decision, and further proceedings were transferred to the Municipal Court in Sarajevo.

Separately from this case, in November 2015, the former police commissioner was finally sentenced by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to a single sentence of 11 years for organized crime, unauthorized drug trafficking, receiving gifts and other forms of benefit, and abuse of position. He was awaiting service of his sentence at the Correctional Facility in Sarajevo, where he was supposed to report on March 9, 2016, but he fled.
