(Patria) - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi issued a statement welcoming the "brave people" of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who "taught the Zionist regime a lesson".
"The punishment of the aggressor, which was a true promise of the Supreme Leader, has been fulfilled", said the Iranian president.
He added that the operation was "within the framework of the right to legitimate self-defense" in response to Israel's aggressive actions.
Raisi said that Iran had used all tools in the past six months, as well as in recent weeks, to show the "terrible consequences" of the UN Security Council's inaction regarding Israel's violation of international laws.
"We recommend that the supporters of the occupying regime appreciate this responsible and appropriate action by the Islamic Republic and stop their blind support for this aggressor regime", he added, reports Al Jazeera.
On Saturday evening, Iran attacked Israel with more than 300 drones and missiles, and Israeli authorities announced that 99 percent were intercepted.
This was followed by condemnations of the Iranian attack and calls for de-escalation of relations between the two countries.
The US helped Israel defend itself against Iranian drones, but said it would not participate in any potential Israeli offensive against Iran.
