Radončić: Sarajevo Airport should be closed immediately

SARAJevo, (Patria) - In response to inquiries from several media outlets about whether Sarajevo International Airport should be closed to passengers, I can say it should be closed, and immediately, stated BiH Security Minister Fahrudin Radončić.

"The owner of Sarajevo Public International Airport is the Government of the Federation of BiH, and the same Government has also activated the Federal Civil Protection Headquarters, which is working very effectively and implementing excellent measures. It would be necessary for them to submit their request to the BiH Coordination Body for Protection and Rescue, as the BiH Border Police has already done. The BiH Council of Ministers, according to procedure, can then immediately adopt such a measure, based on the Proposal of the BiH Coordination Body," Radončić said.

He believes this should be done as soon as possible, as abuses by individuals and airlines from certain countries are currently occurring.

"Leave the airport open only for cargo transport. If we receive a request, I will do everything to have it on tomorrow's session of the Council of Ministers. At tomorrow's session of the Council of Ministers, entry will be banned for all foreign nationals into BiH (with the exception of very rare categories, such as EUFOR, NATO, etc.), which will certainly resolve this issue," Radončić stated in a press release.
