Since October 2015, the Interdepartmental Working Group for amendments to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been meeting intensively, but to date there has been no significant progress regarding key amendments to this law, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
Political leaders agree that amendments to this law are needed, but not on what those amendments should be.
Today, this was also discussed at a session of the Presidency of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina, held in Kiseljak. As announced, there is a certain degree of agreement on some legal-technical issues, but certain matters are still under discussion. The Interdepartmental Working Group for amending the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to hold a new working meeting in Čitluk in the middle of the week to achieve a certain finalization of the process of amending the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the meeting, a certain degree of consensus should now be reached at the level of the Working Group, which would include the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg in the Sejdić-Finci case, the decision of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for Mostar, and technical issues, such as the openness and closeness of electoral lists, the electoral threshold, and gender representation on lists.
