Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a conversation with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, revealed that he does not rule out the possibility of using nuclear warheads in the war with the Islamic State, although he hopes it will not be necessary, reports the Patria News Agency.
During a meeting in the Kremlin, the Russian Defense Minister told Putin that missiles had been fired from a submarine in the Mediterranean. The Russian President then said that the new missiles can be equipped with nuclear warheads and added that he hopes they will never be needed.
-We must analyze everything that is happening on the battlefield, how the weapons work. Kalibr and KH-101 missiles have proven to be modern and highly effective, and now we know for sure - precision weapons can be equipped with conventional and special nuclear warheads. Of course, it is not necessary to use them in the fight against terrorists, and I hope it will never be necessary, said Putin.
