(Patria) - US President Donald Trump is doing a lot to resolve complex crises around the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said yesterday, after the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, although several countries had nominated Trump for the award.
During a press conference in the Tajik capital Dushanbe, after a three-day visit to that Central Asian country, Putin commented on the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize, noting that "it is not up to him to decide" who will receive it.
- There have been cases when the committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to people who did nothing for peace - Putin said, adding that he believes such decisions have caused enormous damage to the reputation of the award.
According to him, the Nobel Committee has thereby lost authority, and he avoided answering the question of whether Trump deserves this recognition.
- But he really does a lot to resolve complex crises that have lasted for years, even decades - the Russian president said.
He specifically highlighted the situation in Gaza, assessing that it will be a historic event if Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza is actually implemented.
Speaking about Ukraine, Putin reiterated his belief that Trump is sincerely trying to end the three-and-a-half-year war in that country.
Let us recall, the Nobel Committee yesterday awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Maria Corina Machado.
