Donald Trump is a "brilliant and talented man" and the "undisputed favorite in the presidential race," Russian President Vladimir Putin said, Russian agencies reported, according to the Patria News Agency.
"He is a brilliant man, undoubtedly talented. It is not for us to assess his qualities, but he is the undisputed favorite in the presidential race," Putin said, Russian agencies reported after his annual press conference with about 1,400 Russian and foreign journalists.
Putin said that the way Trump speaks to increase his popularity does not concern Russia, referring to numerous provocative statements by the American billionaire.
At the press conference, Putin said he was "ready to develop relations with the US" and cooperate with any US president elected in November 2016.
"Trump wants a different level of relations, closer and deeper relations with Russia, how can we not welcome that. Of course, we welcome it," Putin said.
In October, Trump said he "could probably get along very well with Vladimir Putin."
