(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the spring conscription of 160,000 citizens aged 18 to 30, the Kremlin announced.
"The conscription is not related to the 'special military operation' currently underway in Ukraine," the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.
As explained, the conscription will be carried out from April 1 to July 15, and applies to Russian citizens who are not in the reserve and are subject to conscription into military service in accordance with the federal law from 1998.
The Ministry added that conscripts will not be sent to the deployment sites of the Russian Armed Forces units in the new Russian regions, namely the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, nor will they participate in fulfilling the objectives of the Russian General Staff's "special military operation" there.
Conscripts will be discharged in a timely manner, upon expiration of the period stipulated by law, the Ministry noted.
