Putin orders conscription of 133,000 soldiers in Russian autumn call-up

(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the conscription of 133,000 new soldiers in the Russian autumn call-up, which begins on October 1 and lasts until the end of the year, according to a Kremlin decree published on Monday, Reuters reported.

The decree, published in the Russian state newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta, calls for the conscription of citizens "aged 18 to 30, who are not in the reserve and are subject to conscription in accordance with federal law ... in the number of 133,000 people."

The head of the Russian military office, Vice Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky, said that the conditions for conscripts remain the same: twelve months of service in military units in Russia.

"I would like to note that conscripts will not be called to participate in the special military operation in the new regions," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted the vice admiral as saying.
Russia calls the war in Ukraine, which it began with an invasion in February 2022, a special military operation. Kyiv and its allies call it unprovoked aggression.

Citing growing threats on Russia's western borders, Putin in September ordered the Russian army to be increased by 180,000 soldiers to 1.5 million active troops, making it the second largest in the world after China's.
