Putin at virtual G20 summit, first time since start of Ukraine invasion

(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in a virtual meeting of G20 leaders to be held on November 22.

Putin had previously skipped the annual summit in India in September, Russian state television reported.

"The virtual meeting on November 22 will seek to build on the outcomes of the September meeting," Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

Putin has not personally attended the annual G20 meeting since launching the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Russian President will have direct talks with Western leaders for the first time in months during the online summit convened by Indian President Narendra Modi, Russian media reported, citing dpa.

Russia was represented at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in early September by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Western G20 members have sought Russia's isolation since the start of the invasion of Ukraine and have imposed sanctions on Russian raw material exports, as well as on numerous individuals.

India hands over the G20 presidency to Brazil at the end of this month.
