(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that his country would use nuclear weapons if attacked by a state, and that any conventional attack supported by a nuclear power would be considered a joint attack.
Opening a session of the Russian Security Council, Putin said that proposals to amend Russia's nuclear doctrine had been submitted and that he wanted to emphasize one of the main proposed changes.
- It is proposed that aggression against Russia by a non-nuclear state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear-armed country, would be considered their joint attack on the Russian Federation - Putin stated.
According to his words, the conditions for Russia's transition to the use of nuclear weapons have also been clearly defined.
Putin added that Moscow would consider such a move if it observed a massive attack with missiles, aircraft and drones on its territory.
- Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons if it or Belarus are targets of aggression, including with conventional weapons - Putin warned.
He added that these clarifications have been carefully calibrated and are proportionate to the modern military threats Russia faces.
