(Patria) – Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu arrived in Belarus on Wednesday to attend talks on military cooperation, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced.
This visit by a high-ranking Russian official followed a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in the Russian resort town of Sochi earlier in the week, when even closer cooperation between the two countries was agreed upon.
At the same time, Lukashenko's problems 'at home' are only deepening – mass protests are not subsiding, while the West is introducing sanctions against state officials involved in the rigging of the presidential elections.
