Putin and Trump Discussed Continuing Direct Talks Between Russian and Ukrainian Delegations

(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation that lasted about forty minutes, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov told reporters.

Trump informed Putin about his talks with Volodymyr Zelensky and a number of European leaders. TASS reported key information about the telephone conversation shared by Ushakov.

The conversation between the Russian and American leaders, which was frank and constructive, lasted about forty minutes.

Putin reiterated the importance of Trump's personal efforts to find a long-term solution to the Ukrainian crisis. The sides also discussed their recent meeting in Alaska.

"Our president warmly thanked his American counterpart for the hospitality and good organization of the summit in Alaska, as well as for the progress towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis achieved there," Ushakov said.

Putin and Trump advocated for the continuation of direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

"They discussed the idea of considering the possibility of increasing the level of Russian and Ukrainian representatives involved in direct talks," Ushakov said.

The two leaders "agreed to maintain close contact on the Ukrainian crisis and other pressing issues on the international and bilateral agenda."
