Russian President Vladimir Putin is again this year, for the third year in a row, first on the annual list of the most powerful people in the world published by Forbes magazine, reports the Patria News Agency.
In second place is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who moved up three places, and in third is US President Barack Obama, who dropped one place on the list, writes AFP.
Forbes assessed that sanctions have not harmed Putin at all and he continues to enjoy great popularity in Russia. It is added that Putin's decision to help Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with air strikes on rebel forces has strengthened his influence on the international stage.
