Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that an agreement has been reached with Iran, Turkey, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for peace talks on Syria to be held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, world agencies report, Patria reports.
Representatives of Russia, Iran, and Turkey met in Moscow on Tuesday, after which they issued a press release stating that they are ready to negotiate on achieving peace in Syria.
Putin's proposal was Kazakhstan, as a close ally of Russia.
He stated on Friday that the evacuation of Aleppo would not have been possible without the help of Russia, Iran, and Turkey, as well as Assad's "goodwill".
The next step for Syria is a ceasefire throughout the country, Putin emphasized.
The start of negotiations is planned for mid-January.
