Russia expects a statement from Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding Vladimir Putin's letter warning that gas supplies will be suspended due to Ukraine's debt, said Dmitri Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, as reported by media and the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).
Peskov stated that Moscow received a letter from European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso saying the EU is ready for dialogue on gas supplies, but it is unclear to them whether Barroso also represents BiH and other non-EU countries.
- That letter is welcome. But it is unclear to us whether Barroso also represents non-EU countries that receive Russian gas, BiH, Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey. This must be clarified – Peskov said, reports NAP. Putin stated a few days ago that he would wait another month before taking action. The BiH Presidency previously confirmed that Putin's letter had arrived.
We tried to find out if BiH would respond to Putin, but sources from the Presidency told us that the letter had been forwarded to the entity governments, which have jurisdiction over energy, and that no statement was planned for now, reports NAP.
