Tax Administration Has Its Hands Full, Imposed Over a Million Marks in Fines in Just Two Months

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - In the period January-February 2021, the Tax Administration of the Federation of BiH (PUFBiH) conducted a total of 1,016 inspections. Due to established irregularities, 591 violation reports were filed, with a total of 1,102,045 KM in fines imposed.

In the first two months of the current year, i.e., from January 1 to February 28, 2021, in the process of forced collection, 1,470 decisions on collecting tax liabilities from monetary funds were issued, and 208 decisions on suspending payment transactions through taxpayers' accounts, which are considered taxpayer account blockades, were issued, writes Faktor.ba.

PUFBiH explained to us what happens if a case goes to court.

  • If a taxpayer has not settled the tax liabilities determined by PUFBiH on any basis, the Tax Administration issues a decision, against which the taxpayer can file an appeal, which is then resolved by a second-instance body, in this case, the Federal Ministry of Finance.

If this body confirms the PUFBIH decision, the taxpayer has the legal option to initiate an administrative dispute before the competent court within 30 days.

Taxpayers, employers, and economic analysts believe that during the coronavirus pandemic and due to all the economic and health consequences, PUFBiH should perhaps have been more flexible. Some analysts warn that this flexibility has long existed towards public companies, but it has been overdone, making them the largest debtors today.
