(Patria) - Charlie Kirk, an influential right-wing activist close to US President Donald Trump and executive director of the organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was wounded today during an event at Utah Valley University.
Footage circulating on social media shows the moment Kirk was hit in the neck while speaking under a tent on the university campus.
At the same time, students fled in panic at the sound of gunshots. Kirk was appearing there as part of the "American Comeback Tour," organized by the local chapter of TPUSA.
Pray for Charlie Kirk. He understood the risks and courageously put himself out there anyway. https://t.co/BkKZc6oDpi

His team confirmed to Fox News that he was hit, but his condition is not yet known.
University police confirmed that shots were fired, and the FBI said agents are rushing to the scene and fully supporting the investigation.
Scott Trotter, a spokesman for Utah Valley University, told the BBC that Kirk was wounded and that the attacker had not been arrested. However, in the meantime, footage of an alleged arrest of the attacker has appeared on social media, but it has not yet been confirmed.
Trotter also said that around 12:25 p.m. local time, "a shot rang out on the university campus, near the student cafeteria, as Kirk was beginning his performance." He added that the campus would be closed for the rest of the day.
US Congressman Jason Chaffetz, who was at the event with his daughter, told Fox News that the violence was "shocking."
- Everyone hit the ground and scattered. The bullet came straight toward him - Chaffetz said, adding that he spoke with Kirk just before the rally began.
After the shot, people began to flee in panic and chaos ensued.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the news that the conservative activist and his ally Charlie Kirk was wounded and called for prayer.
"We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from head to toe. God bless him," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the attack, calling it "disgusting, vile and shameful." Utah Senator Mike Lee said he is closely monitoring the situation and called for prayers for Kirk and the students who were there.
Shortly before the shooting, Kirk posted on X: "We're back. Utah Valley University is on its feet and ready for the first comeback performance of the 'American Comeback Tour.'"

"Today around 12:10 p.m., a shot was fired at guest speaker Charlie Kirk. He was struck by a bullet and was removed from the rally by his security. University police are leading the investigation, and the suspect has been arrested," the statement reads.
