(Patria) - At least five people were killed in a shooting at the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky, and at least eight were injured, police said at a press conference.
- The attacker is also dead, said Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Colonel Paul Humphrey.
At least two police officers were shot, Humphrey said.
Of the at least eight people transported to the hospital, two are in critical condition. One of them is a police officer who is currently undergoing surgery.
Police are working to identify all the victims, Humphrey said. Some of the survivors managed to hide in a safe room in time, a CNN reporter said.
The FBI announced that its agents are on the scene and assisting local police. Residents have been warned not to approach that part of the city.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg arrived at the scene of the shooting. He called the incident "tragic".
Police confirmed that the shooting occurred at the Old National Bank in Kentucky's largest city.
Police believe the attacker was connected to the bank, they announced at a press conference. It appears, they say, that he was a former employee.
- Police responded this morning within three minutes of the call and encountered the suspect almost immediately, said Louisville Deputy Police Chief Paul Humphrey at a press briefing.

The suspect continued to shoot, said the chief. Police exchanged fire with the attacker, who died at the scene, he added.
Police are trying to determine if the attacker died from gunfire or self-inflicted wounds.
US President Joe Biden condemned the latest mass shooting.
- Once again our nation mourns after a senseless act of gun violence - Jill and I are praying for the lives lost and affected by today's shooting.
Too many Americans are paying the price of inaction with their lives. When will Republicans in Congress act to protect our communities? Biden asked, Hina reports.
