
(Patria) - Five American soldiers were wounded today in a shooting that occurred at the Fort Stewart military base in the state of Georgia, local authorities reported.
The incident took place in the area of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team unit, and the attacker was arrested at 11:35 a.m. local time.
The soldiers were transported to a hospital after receiving first aid, according to a post on the official Facebook page of Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield.
The military base was locked down at 11:04 a.m., and police forces were immediately dispatched to the scene. According to the latest information, there is no longer an active threat to the community, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said on platform X that he is in contact with the police and that he is deeply affected by the tragedy.
"Our thoughts are with the wounded, their families, and all those serving the homeland. We ask all residents of Georgia to join us in our prayers," Kemp wrote.
The White House also reacted to this event. Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that U.S. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation and that federal authorities are closely monitoring developments.
