Shooting near the White House, armed man shot by police

(Patria) - The U.S. Secret Service announced last night that it is on the scene of a shooting in Washington involving an officer, in which one person was shot by police, Reuters reported.

"U.S. Secret Service personnel are on the scene of a police-involved shooting at the corner of 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. One person was shot by police. Their condition is currently unknown," the Secret Service announced on social media platform X.

The White House was briefly locked down on Monday afternoon.

The Secret Service later announced that the incident was "the result of an engagement between an armed individual and Secret Service officers."

The DC Police Department announced that police are on the scene investigating.

"The scene is secure. Avoid the area as roads will be closed for several hours," police announced.

The man was taken by ambulance.
