Break-in at Novo Sarajevo Police Station, Police Claim Locks Were Broken by a Cleaner During Cleaning!

In the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a story has been circulating for several days that a serious burglary was recently carried out in the evening hours at the Novo Sarajevo Police Station building, the Patria news agency learns.

According to Patria's sources, the thief managed to break into the office of Commander Asim Merdanović despite police security. In fact, in front of the Police Station building, police officers are on external security 24 hours a day, armed with long-barreled weapons, and inside the building there are police officers working on internal security.

At the time of the break-in, the shift supervisor was also in the building. In Merdanović's office, the thief allegedly broke the locks on cabinets and safes, and according to unofficial information, stole certain documents and a service pistol.

An investigation was carried out, but this break-in at the Novo Sarajevo Police Station and the theft were not included in official police bulletins, so we contacted the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton and officially requested information regarding this incident.

The official information we received from the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton states that it was actually an accident involving cleaners during cleaning.

- We inform you that after conducting interviews with the police officers on duty who were working on internal and external security of the Second Police Station building, as well as with the duty shift supervisor and the cleaners, it was established that on August 17, 2016, while the commander of the Novo Sarajevo Police Station was on annual leave, the cleaners carried out a thorough cleaning of the office, during which office furniture was moved for cleaning purposes, and on that occasion, the lock on the chest of drawers (drawer unit) in the said office was most likely damaged - stated the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, without specifying whether documents and a pistol actually disappeared from the office.
