(Patria) - Russian forces launched a "massive" drone and missile attack on Kyiv early this morning, officials said, hitting buildings and causing explosions and fires, Reuters reported.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people were injured.
"Air defence is in action in Kyiv," Klitschko wrote on Telegram. "The enemy is carrying out a massive attack on the capital. Stay in shelters."
Klitschko said debris hit a five-story residential building in the Dniprovskyi district on the eastern side of the Dnipro River, and a high-rise building caught fire in the Podil district on the opposite bank.
A fire broke out on the roof of a residential building in another district, and debris fell on a school in the east of the city.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv military administration, said both drones and missiles rained down on the capital.
Tkachenko and Klitschko called for emergency services to be sent to several city districts.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russian missiles targeted Kyiv and several other regions.
