Indictment confirmed against Syrians and Algerians for robbery, assault on passers-by

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo confirmed the indictment of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office against Mohamed Norgitoun, Bouzembil Yemal, Pascal Amin, Swidi Nordin, Mohamed Fermald, citizens of Syria and Algeria, for the criminal offense of robbery, it was announced from the KS Prosecutor's Office.

"The accused are charged with approaching two passers-by on April 7, 2020, in the evening hours in the Centar Municipality, threatening them with clubs, knives, and brass knuckles, demanding cigarettes, food, and money. After the two victims responded that they had none, the accused surrounded them and began to beat them, also using an iron bar. One of the victims sustained minor injuries, while the other sustained more severe injuries. The accused then took the wallet and fled. The stolen wallet was found in the pants pocket of Mohamed Norgitoun during his arrest. After the indictment was confirmed, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo extended the pre-trial detention of the accused, which may last until November 4, 2020, or until a new court decision," the announcement stated.

The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo also declared Mohamed Saadaui and Sofian Smati guilty of the criminal offense of robbery in a plea agreement. They were sentenced to one year and six months in prison each.

On February 13, 2020, in the afternoon hours in the Ilidža Municipality, they stole 200 euros and a mobile phone from the victim identified as A.A. After A.A. asked for his money and phone back, Sofian Smati opened a metal folding knife and hit the victim several times on the hands, causing him minor injuries to his right hand. Thus, they used a weapon against another person with the intent to retain stolen property.
