Protests in Brussels: Protect us from inflation and high energy prices

(Patria) - More than 15,000 demonstrators gathered despite the severe cold in Brussels today, demanding additional measures to protect against high energy prices and better wages to combat sudden inflation.

The protests, supported by three main trade unions, disrupted public services across Belgium, particularly paralyzing the rail and metro systems around the capital and Brussels International Airport, Beta reported.

The unions demanded wage increases at a time when companies such as energy giants are making huge profits while residents are under increasing pressure from high prices.

The demands of the protests are a freeze on energy prices and an increase in capital taxation.

"We will not stop unless workers get what they deserve," the unions said in a statement.

Police estimated that 16,500 people marched through Brussels. Similar protests have been held in recent weeks across Europe.
