Prosvjeta marks 120 years of work, Christmas Concert held at the National Theatre

(Patria) - With the traditional Christmas Concert at the Sarajevo National Theatre, the Serbian Educational and Cultural Society "Prosvjeta" this evening concluded the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the society's work.

The President of the Society, Nedeljko Masleša, previously stated that "Prosvjeta" contributes to the diversity and uniqueness of cultural events in Sarajevo with this concert.

- Culture is our fundamental mission, the one established by our founders. We follow that path and direction. We believe that culture is a treasure that belongs to everyone, that should not be divided, but rather, we should complement each other, nurture what has always been in these regions, and that is mutual understanding, appreciation, and respect - Masleša said.

As part of the celebration of 120 years since the founding of "Prosvjeta", numerous events were organized, a formal academy was held, and the culmination of the celebration is tonight's Christmas Concert, which is traditionally organized in honor of the great Christian holiday of Christmas.

In front of a full hall of the National Theatre, the Chamber Ensemble "Teodor Romanić" - Prosvjeta performed several traditional spiritual compositions, including works by Rachmaninoff.

The ethno group "Trag" from Banja Luka, as well as the female Abrašević choir "Ogrlica od bisera" from Belgrade, also performed at the concert.

Numerous concert guests and friends of "Prosvjeta" enjoyed the performances, ethno and traditional compositions: "Bogorodice dievo", "Mesečina", "Roždetstvo tvoje", "Ajde jano", "Vrbice, vrbo zelena", "Aman đevojko"...

The proceeds from ticket sales will once again go to the "Prosvjeta" Scholarship Fund for students throughout BiH.

Orthodox believers, whose church observes the old Julian calendar, celebrate Christmas on January 7. It is preceded by a Christmas fast that lasts from November 28 to January 6. The last day before Christmas and also the last day of the fast is Christmas Eve.

The laying and burning of the Badnjak (Christmas Eve log) will be held tomorrow at 5 PM in the Old Orthodox Church in Sarajevo.
