Fish production in BiH decreased by more than 20 percent

Of the total fish production in BiH, as much as 83.5 percent refers to trout, 11.1 percent to carp, and 5.4 percent to other types of fish, according to data from the Agency for Statistics of BiH, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

However, as further stated in the reports of this agency, fish production in 2013 in BiH was lower by as much as 20.4% compared to 2012. Carp production decreased by 45.0%, while trout production decreased by 15 percent compared to the previous year.

Thus, trout production in 2013 fell from 2,818 tons to about 2,381 tons, while carp production fell from 573.2 tons to 317 tons.

As Dževad Handžar, president of the Fishermen's Group in the Federation of BiH, previously confirmed for the news agency Patria, fish farming is one of the most promising branches of the economy in BiH, but the state is doing nothing to develop this sector. He explained that the heavy snowfall that hit BiH in 2012 caused great damage to fish farms across the country, which also affected the decrease in production itself, writes Patria.
