Prohić: Tolerating Dodik's refusal to extinguish fires is a prelude to apocalypse

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Psychologist and political analyst Ibrahim Prohić commented on the persistent refusal of BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik to give consent for the Armed Forces of BiH to help the population in extinguishing fires. Prohić also had a message for the representatives of the international community who have not yet understood how dangerous it is to support politicians willing to risk other people's lives for their goals.

- The US Embassy in BiH sharply criticized the move by BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik, who did not give consent for the use of helicopters of the Armed Forces of BiH to extinguish fires in Herzegovina. This news is a day old. It sounds encouraging, as it identifies the culprit (although not named) responsible for unacceptable arbitrariness on the verge of a crime!? After all, here's how the Embassy assesses it: "Ignoring requests for assistance from local authorities by an elected official, when a natural disaster occurs, constitutes a dereliction of duty. A leader places the safety of citizens as their top priority," Prohić wrote.

Although he considers such reactions desirable, Prohić sees a problem in them.

- Firstly, the problem is that Milorad Dodik did the same thing last year and faced no consequences for it. Neither political nor criminal. In penology, the term recidivist is used for those who repeat an offense, and this fact is taken as an aggravating circumstance when determining a sentence, says Prohić.

According to him, it is known in psychology that actions that are not punished tend to become structured, i.e., repeated. Conversely, actions that are punished tend to be extinguished, i.e., not repeated. The international community should learn from this, because tolerating such behavior threatens widespread escalation.

- Haven't they learned, even without psychologists and experts, that here in the Balkans, statements and verbal, moral lessons do not change the behavior of "leaders"? And secondly, when will the West understand that tolerating crime in BiH or in Ukraine reinforces crime on a global scale and contributes to the strengthening of fascist ideology that threatens apocalypse?

If violence and destruction become the principle for resolving problems, then we are living a Greek tragedy scenario (everyone sees that disaster is approaching, and no one is doing anything)!?
