(Patria) - Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported that interim President of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa will visit Russia on October 15, TASS reported last night.
This will be the first visit to Moscow for the new Syrian leader.
A delegation of the Syrian government, led by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, was in Moscow on July 31. They held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, and were received by President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry later emphasized that this meeting serves as a basis for starting the process of restoring Syrian-Russian relations, strengthening regional balance, and expanding the capacities of the Syrian state.
On October 13, during a meeting with journalists from Arab countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Syria would like to keep Russian military bases in the country, but could repurpose them for other tasks amid new realities.
