Pressure continues: Report on criminal offense filed against ef. Mahić to the Prosecutor's Office in Prijedor

(Patria) - Against the chief imam of the Islamic Community Council Kozarac, Amir Mahić, who spoke about Saint Sava during a khutbah, which provoked reactions from authorities in the RS, and the efendi even gave a statement to the police, a report has been filed with the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Prijedor.

The report on the criminal offense of publicly inciting and promoting violence and hatred against A.M. was submitted on Wednesday, February 15, by members of the Prijedor Police Administration.

If Mahić's guilt is proven, he faces a fine or a prison sentence of up to three years.

The Prijedor City Assembly yesterday strongly condemned the appearance and speech of the chief imam of the Islamic Community Council Kozarac, Amir Mahić.

“The City Assembly calls on all religious officials not to disrupt the peace and coexistence of religious feelings of other peoples through public appearances and the performance of religious rites. The Assembly is committed to coexistence based on the principle of inter-ethnic and inter-religious tolerance and respect for mutual progress,” states the conclusion adopted by the City Assembly at its third special session.

The Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein-ef. Kavazović, described the decision of the Prijedor City Assembly as shameful.

“It is shameful. A municipality where a crime with elements of genocide was committed, where imams were killed and held in camps, all mosques were destroyed, and children were killed. Bosniaks are the Palestinians of Europe; they are being persecuted unjustly by their neighbors, to whom they have often done good,” stated Reis-ul-ulema Kavazović for the MINA Agency.

The repression initiated by politicians in the RS has resulted in proceedings against efendi Mahić.
