BANJA LUKA, (Patria) - Dajana Dangubić, a member of the Armed Forces of BiH and the first woman to command a tank, was physically attacked several days ago in Banja Luka. On this occasion, journalist Dragan Bursać spoke out on social media.
"A woman brutally attacked because she 'has short hair'?! She was attacked in Banja Luka, the capital of violence, homophobia and xenophobia. A shameful explanation from the police - perhaps the trigger for the attack was the way she dressed and that she has short hair?! Dajana says that the shameful conversation with the police hurt more than the blows she received. Dajana is the best thing in my country, and the scum that threatened and attacked her is dragging my country down. Support for Dajana, the attackers must be found, and all of us together should scratch our heads - why do some of us have a problem with the best among us??? Dajana, you are our pride," wrote Bursać.
Dangubić is also known to the public as the girl who jumped off the Old Bridge in Mostar. She also engaged in weightlifting. She is an advocate for women's rights, as well as the face of a campaign to include women in the Armed Forces of BiH.
Political commentator Ivana Marić also spoke out on social media, condemning the violence against Dangubić but also the attitude of the police officers to whom she reported the attack.
"The real attack took place during the conversation with the police officers, who behaved unprofessionally and inhumanely towards her. They accused her of being responsible for the attack because she walks in the park with short hair so late. There are those people who justify rape with a short skirt, violence with short hair, but in essence, the real problem is their short-sightedness, because of which they do not see that someone tomorrow could justify violence against their daughter, wife, sister or mother in the same way. The police should protect citizens regardless of their gender, age, nationality, sexual orientation, skirt or hair length. I believe that many other victims do not report violence precisely because of a lack of understanding from the public and responsible persons, but instead feel ashamed, withdraw and suffer in secret. The only ones who should be ashamed are the perpetrators and those who justify them. Violence has no justification," wrote Marić.
The Ministry of Defense of BiH has not commented on the attack on the member of the Armed Forces of BiH.
