Foreign direct investment inflow in BiH in 2021 amounted to 971.2 million KM

(Patria) - The inflow of foreign direct investment into Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2021 amounted to 971.2 million KM, according to data from the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBiH), which published the results of the statistical survey on foreign direct investment for 2021.

In terms of geographical distribution, the largest inflow of investments during 2021 was from Switzerland (210.8 million KM), followed by Turkey (147.0 million KM) and Great Britain (126.1 million KM).
When viewed by activities, the most investments were realized in the field of retail trade in the amount of 172.9 million KM, then in the field of manufacturing of fabricated metal products 114.1 million, and in the field of manufacturing of basic metals 102.7 million KM.

Investment inflows can be characterized as encouraging, as they are 250 million higher than in 2020. The trend of growth in reinvested earnings of existing companies with foreign investments from 2020 continued in 2021. However, reinvested earnings had a smaller share (54%) in the total flows, as a significant increase in investments in the form of equity stakes was recorded, while at the same time there was a decrease in other capital.

At the end of 2021, the stock of foreign direct investment amounted to 16.28 billion KM. This amount represents the result of investments in previous years, as well as the operations of companies under foreign ownership. The largest amount of the stock of direct investments still relates to Austria (2.88 billion KM) or 17.7% of the total stock of investments, Croatia (2.72 billion KM) or 16.7%, and Serbia (2.25 billion KM) or 13.8%.

When viewed by activities, the largest stock of foreign direct investment is in the field of financial services (3.67 billion KM), then in the fields of telecommunications (1.75 billion KM) and wholesale trade (1.44 billion KM).

In line with the revision policy and based on additional data collected in this year's survey, along with the publication of data for 2021, revisions of data for the previous two years have also been carried out.
