With a gathering on the city square and a protest walk, more than 200 residents of Prijedor will today mark the "Day of White Ribbons", as a sign of remembrance for the 102 children murdered in this city during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the BH News Agency Patria.
As confirmed for NAP by Emir Hodžić, one of the initiators of the "Because it concerns me" initiative, the parents of the murdered children will also organize a petition today – collecting signatures with which they will more easily fight for the construction of a memorial to the murdered children with the local authorities, which has been denied to them for several years.
- We hope to collect enough signatures, to which the local authorities will not remain silent – said Hodžić.
During the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, more than 3,173 civilians were killed in Prijedor, including 102 children. The remains of some of the murdered children were found in mass graves throughout Prijedor. Their parents now want to erect a memorial that will remind of the crime committed against their innocent lives, but the Prijedor authorities do not allow them to do so.
- Last year, the local authorities even banned the gathering. This year is no different, but the overall policy has not significantly changed compared to last year – says Hodžić.
