Members of the World Football Federation (FIFA) will consider the proposal of the Football Association of Palestine to suspend Israel from international football competitions at the end of the month, reports the Patria news agency.
FIFA announced today the agenda for its electoral congress, which will be held on May 29 in Zurich. Its 209 members will elect a president, but will also vote on the proposal of the Football Association of Palestine to suspend Israel.
This proposal is unlikely to pass, as its adoption requires three-quarters of the votes of FIFA members. FIFA President Sepp Blatter said last month that he opposes the Palestinian association's proposal.
Palestinian officials are seeking punishment for Israel due to the decision of security forces to restrict the movement of opposing team players. Blatter is a strong favorite for his fifth term at the helm of the World Football Federation.
