28 years ago, the First Corps of the Army of RBiH was formed, 472 members were "Golden Lilies"

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The First Corps of the Army of RBiH, headquartered in Sarajevo, was formed in the war year of 1992 as part of the initial reorganization and consolidation of numerous newly formed patriotic units, territorial defense units, and reserve forces of the MUP of RBiH, by the decision of the Supreme Command (Presidency of RBiH) and its president Alija Izetbegović.

The First Corps made a huge contribution to the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past war. Mustafa Hajrulahović Talijan was appointed the first commander of this celebrated operational-tactical formation. Three brigades of the Corps bore the honorary titles of "glorious", and four bore the honorary titles of "knightly".

Out of the members of the First Corps of the Army of RBiH, 472 are recipients of the highest wartime recognition "Golden Lily", 29 members were awarded the highest state recognitions by the Presidency of BiH, and 19 members received the wartime recognition "Silver Shield".

For its contribution to the defense of the city of Sarajevo and BiH, the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was awarded the collective Sixth of April Award of the City of Sarajevo in 2010.

On the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the 1st Corps of the Army of RBiH, the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Šefik Džaferović and member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić will pay tribute to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the Army of RBiH and lay flowers at the following locations: 10:00 AM Kovači Cemetery, 10:40 AM Alipašina Mosque Courtyard, 11:10 AM – 12:00 PM Lav Cemetery, Stadion Cemetery, St. Joseph Cemetery, St. Mark Cemetery.

At 6:00 PM, the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Šefik Džaferović will attend the ceremonial academy on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the 1st Corps of the Army of RBiH (Amphitheater of the Kovači Memorial Complex).

Organized by the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, a series of activities will mark the 28th anniversary of the formation of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in memory of all heroes, martyrs, fallen soldiers – defenders of Sarajevo and our only homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as fallen civilians, who invested their lives in its foundations.

Delegations will pay tribute and lay flowers at the memorials to fallen civilians, martyrs, and fallen soldiers-defenders at the following times: at 10:00 AM – laying flowers at the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery and the grave of the first President of the Presidency of BiH Alija Izetbegović; at 10:40 AM – paying tribute and laying flowers to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the Army of RBiH at the cemetery near Alipašina Mosque; from 11:10 AM to 12:00 PM – paying tribute and laying flowers to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the Army of RBiH at the "Lav" Cemetery, at the "Stadion" Cemetery, at the "Sveti Josip" Cemetery, and at the "Sveti Marko" Cemetery.

Municipal delegations will, on the same day and at the same time, pay tribute and lay flowers at the memorial sites and cemeteries on the territories of all municipalities of Sarajevo Canton to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the Army of RBiH.

From 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM – Ceremonial academy in the Amphitheater of the Kovači Memorial Complex.
