On this day, May 26, 1992, a battle was fought for the defense of the "Zehra Muidović" maternity ward in the Sarajevo settlement of Jezero, writes the Patria News Agency.
The battle lasted from early morning until the evening hours. The building was shelled all day. On that fateful day, five babies were killed, and the day after, children and mothers were evacuated. Members of the Koševsko brdo Detachment managed to repel the aggressor's attack.
The largest part of the equipment the maternity ward had was destroyed. The maternity ward was relocated to the Clinical Center in Koševo. It was renovated in November 2010.
