24 years ago, the First Corps of the Army of RBiH was formed

The First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was founded on September 1, 1992. The First Corps was one of six corps within the Army of RBiH. The area of responsibility of the First Corps during the Serbian and Croatian aggression against BiH was the area of Sarajevo. As Sarajevo was under siege by the Serbian army for 1,425 days, which at one point cooperated with HVO units from Kiseljak under the command of war criminal Ivica Rajić, the First Corps had the primary task of preventing the incursion of Serbian units into Sarajevo, writes historija.ba, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

In 1992, the First Corps had 34,500 members, and the number grew to 40,500 members in 1995.
The first commander of the First Corps of the Army of RBiH was Mustafa Hajrulahović Talijan. The commanders of the First Corps also included Vahid Karavelić and Nedžad Ajnadžić. It is important to note that the First Corps consisted of fighters of various ethnic backgrounds. 

The purpose and goal of the First Corps, as well as the entire Army of RBiH, was to preserve Bosnia and Herzegovina and the integrity of its territory as a sovereign, independent, free state of all its citizens. The defensive struggle of Bosnia and Herzegovina, due to its success in combat, grew into a liberation struggle, which was stopped by the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
