The first horse-drawn tram passed through Sarajevo on January 1, 1885. The one-way route was 3.1 km long, and the track started from today's Faculty of Economics, stretched through Ferhadija and further along the main city street (today's Titova) across Marindvor and ended at the narrow gauge railway station, writes the Patria news agency.
The tram could carry 28 people, and the ticket price was 5 krajcars. Initially, it had a track width of 760 mm. On this day 120 years ago (May 1, 1895), it was electrified.
At the same time, the tram route was extended, from the railway station in Pofalići, which was then located near today's Hotel Bristol, to the Latin Bridge.
The Public Utility Company – Sarajevo City Transport (GRAS) is the company that manages tram traffic today, and the situation in this company is not great.
Workers are dissatisfied, and the KS Government warns that there are too many employees.
