12 years since the murder of Denis Mrnjavac, authorities have not yet erected a memorial

SARAJevo, (Patria) - 12 years ago, 16-year-old Denis Mrnjavac was attacked and killed on a Sarajevo tram while returning from school. His mother, Ana Mrnjavac, has lived for the past 12 years in pain and remembrance of her son. 

There is no solace for her, and not a day goes by that she doesn't wonder why her son had to become a victim. She says the greatest pain is that it all happened in front of a full tram, and no one helped him. 

Although there was an initiative to build a memorial as a permanent reminder of the tragically extinguished life of Denis Mrnjavac, it has not been realized to this day. Until then, the memory remains with his mother, family, friends, and citizens who gather every February 6th at the tram station near the Technical School. 

Denis was beaten and then fatally stabbed on a Sarajevo tram by his peers. They were bothered by just one look from this boy, who was in his second year of high school.  

The Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Admir Lelović to 15 years and Berin Talić to ten years in prison for aiding Nermin Sikirić, who was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence that can be imposed on a minor.
