Verdict for the Death of Students Edita and Selma

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo will deliver a first-instance verdict on Wednesday, September 26, in the case of Sanjin Sefić and others. Sefić is accused of running a red light on October 10, 2016, and hitting and killing two students, Selma Agić and Edita Malkoč, with his car. Sefić immediately fled the scene and crossed into Serbia overnight at the Uvac border crossing. He was arrested on October 11 and extradited on January 9, 2017. The trial began in March 2017. 

In addition to Sefić, Sara Sefić, Dino Alić, Amar Salihović, and Saud Nišić were also tried for aiding Sefić after the commission of the criminal offense. The families of the deceased students Agić and Malkoč will come from Bugojno and Bosanska Krupa tomorrow to attend the verdict reading. 

Enesa Kekić, the sister of the deceased Edita Malkoč, spoke out on her Facebook profile ahead of tomorrow's verdict. 

- Well, I've started preparing slowly. I cleaned the house, prepared Nahla's things she needs for tomorrow, ironed clothes, sat down to drink coffee and think about what else I have to do. And it's not that I haven't had to in these 28 [months].

I have to come up with a good story to explain to Nahla why mom isn't home tomorrow either. "I'm going to school" - no, I've used that so many times. "I'm going to work" - no, that's out of the question because she would immediately ask why I'm gone all day and why I won't sleep in her room. I'd most like to say "I'M GOING TO HEAR WHAT SENTENCE YOUR AUNT'S KILLER WILL GET," but Nahla is turning 4 soon, she wouldn't understand that.

And, her birthday is coming up soon, I'll say "I'll be gone all day because I'm preparing a surprise for your birthday (the second one we're waiting for without Keka Dita - I won't say that, but that thought haunts me)." Tonight, God willing, two hours after midnight, we're leaving. We'll be in Sarajevo around 7, we're going to hear the verdict for the killer of our dearest and most cheerful family members. On 26.9.2018. at 10:00 we will hear the "just" punishment for someone who kills and runs away!

In recent days, I've been asked many times what I expect, I wish you would ask me what I want. I expect nothing, that's for sure! I expected that someone who killed Edita and Selma couldn't cross the border, I expected that someone who killed Edita and Selma wouldn't run away but surrender, I expected that the prosecution would have sympathy for the suffering for Edita and Selma, so they would speed up the process, not slow it down, I expected that during the nearly two years I would hear "I AM GUILTY"... I expected all sorts of things, so what?

What I would like is certainly impossible... In this world! I would like countless years in prison for the killer of my sister and her Selma, I would like the law to change tonight so that this killer never has the right to get out, I would like all the accused to feel prison bars and for this misdeed to come to their minds every day, I would like MOST OF ALL that EDITA AND SELMA NEVER HAPPEN TO ANYONE AGAIN. Actually, that the killer and helpers never happen again, but blessed is the one in whose home Edita and Selma are born. I try to be realistic, in Bosnia and Herzegovina wishes don't come true, so look at me wanting all sorts of things, what right do I have?! But I have the right to ask good people to pray tonight for Edita and Selma, for justice... I also have the right to thank all the people who have been with us with all their strength. How many of you have been with us every moment. Thank you for every second of your time, and there are many of you. There are many good people, thank God, compared to the scum... Bosnia has nothing, but it has good people!
