Sentencing in Mostar for Domestic Violence

(Patria) - Following the indictment by the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in Mostar, the Municipal Court in Mostar has issued a final conviction sentencing the accused Zdrinko Soldo, born in 1972, from Mostar.

Soldo was convicted of the prolonged criminal offense of Domestic Violence under Article 222, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in conjunction with Article 55 of the same Law, and was handed a suspended sentence of 6 (six) months imprisonment, which will not be executed if the convicted person does not commit a new criminal offense within a period of 2 (two) years.

Namely, the indictment by the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in Mostar charged Zdrinko Soldo with endangering the peace, physical integrity, and psychological health of his wife – the victim R. S. on multiple occasions during 2022 in their family home in Mostar through violent, rude, and reckless behavior, by verbally abusing her, hitting her in the presence of children, and smashing things around the house while intoxicated.

Furthermore, the convicted person was ordered to undergo “Mandatory Addiction Treatment” for a period of 2 (two) years, starting from the date the verdict becomes final. It was also decided that if the convicted person does not undergo addiction treatment during the probation period, the suspended sentence may be revoked.

The Municipal Court assessed that this type of sanction, a suspended sentence with a potential six-month prison term and a two-year probation period, along with the “Mandatory Addiction Treatment” measure, will achieve the preventive and sanctioning purpose of punishment.
